Local Exam Notice is a free Moodle plugin that monitors enrolled quizzes across the site and shows a preparation checklist modal to students whenever an upcoming exam falls within a configurable days-before window.
The modal appears on the Moodle dashboard (or any page) the first time a student logs in after an exam enters the notification window. It includes a customisable checklist of preparation steps, links, and instructions — all editable from Moodle admin settings with a WYSIWYG editor. Students can confirm they have read the checklist, or dismiss the reminder to be shown again later.
Zero configuration per course
Because the plugin monitors all quizzes site-wide, teachers do not need to configure anything per course or per activity. Set the threshold once in admin settings and the reminders appear automatically whenever a quiz is due.
What's Included
Automatically detects upcoming quizzes across all courses
The plugin checks the open date of every quiz in the student's enrolled courses. No teacher action required — reminders appear automatically when the quiz date approaches.
Configurable days-before threshold
Set how many days before a quiz open date the reminder should appear. One setting applies site-wide, so all departments get consistent reminders.
Modal with checklist, links, and custom instructions
The reminder modal displays a checklist you define — preparation steps, links to resources, exam rules, or any other content — formatted with a WYSIWYG editor in Moodle admin settings.
Confirm or Remind-me-later interaction
Students click Confirm (records acknowledgement) or Dismiss (hides the modal for the current session). The modal never blocks the student from accessing Moodle.
Admin preview and WYSIWYG editor
Preview exactly how the modal appears to students directly from the admin settings page. Edit the checklist content with Moodle's built-in WYSIWYG editor — no HTML knowledge needed.
